Web 2.0 Thoughts

I believe that the video is saying that we are using the machine, and the machine is using us. It was a little confusing. It was saying that we are the machine because we create it and teach it. It is us.
First, someone who is entering the work force needs to know the machine. The machine leaves him open to everyone and endless amounts of information at his fingertips. Someone entering the workforce needs to be careful that he does not expose himself to curious co-workers or bosses. He also needs to realize that this vast amount of information is his to use to his advantage.
As far as people already in the workforce, they should use it to their advantage and use this cornicopia of information to better their situation.
We will have to rethink how we do things. With information out there for everyone to see, and possibly tamper with, we will have to be careful. Information that reveals someones identity and finances, must be kept safe. As for copyrighted information; it should be well protected and penalties should be enforced. As information becomes more and more fluid, we should be ready to help protect ourselves against the machine.

I like your interpretation, and it even reminds me of an incident that happened to me when I switched from my web master/media consultant job to this teaching job. The computer I'd been using was, of course, sent to the person who replaced me. I didn't even think about him being able to get in to all my old email files, but he did. He apparently went in there and read all kinds of stuff; then, he sent me a very weird email about my paypal purchases and stuff like that. It never occured to me NOT to use that comptuer for personal things because I never dreamed anything like that would happen. Anyway, I ignored the email and never heard from him again, but I learned my lesson... the machine CAN use us, just like you said here.
